Lula Smith
Mrs. Lula Gertrude “Granny” Harvey Smith, age 99, of Covington, died Saturday, December 24, 2011. She was the wife of the late Arnold Matlyn Smith.
Mrs. Smith was born May 23, 1912 in Summers County, WV, the daughter of the late Everett E. Harvey and Eddie Abshire Harvey. A resident of this community since 1935, she was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Falling Spring Fire and Rescue Squad. Mrs. Smith enjoyed taking rides, watching birds, deer and any wildlife.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Dee Dee Smith, with whom she lived with at “The Homeplace”; two sons, Arnold Clifton Smith and wife, Joan of Anville, PA and Allen H. Smith and wife, Susie of Covington; six grandchildren, Tammy, Donna Sue, Debbie and David; two great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; one brother, Myrian Harvey; one special caregiver, Joyce Forbes; and her dog, Prissy.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from the Chapel of with Rev. Paul Burns officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Robert Varner, Darfow Rice, Victor Cucci, J. P. Kern, Jerry Brewster, Jr. and Pat Loving. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Falling Spring Fire and Rescue Squad.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 PM until service time.
