Mr. Sebird Winfield Hylton, Sr., age 80, of Ashland, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Sebird W. Hylton, Jr. and Neil Hylton and a brother, Posey E. “Jack” Hylton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and served on the Ashland Police Department for eight years. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church, Big Ridge Mount, VA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ashland Moose Lodge for 38 years. He was a charter member of the Hatcher Cole Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gayle Daniel Hylton; daughters, Terri Aynn Shelton (Richard) and Beverly Hylton (David Stanley); grandson, Jacob T. Myers (Madeline); great-grandchildren, Jacob Lucas Myers and McKinley Pauline Myers; sisters, Dorothy Thomas and Shirley Kelley (Ray); brothers, Calvin Hylton and Douglas Hylton (Margaret Ann); caregiver, Elizabeth Reece; and dear friend, Mickey Hopkins.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016, at 1:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home, Covington. Interment will follow in the Hylton Family Cemetery, Earlhurst, VA.
