Mr. George William “Tut” Ginn, age 96, of Covington, died Monday, August 3, 2015, at his residence of cardiac arrest. He was the husband of Charlotte Sexton Ginn of Covington.
Mr. Ginn was born May 15, 1919 in Covington, the son of the late Charles Porterfield Ginn and Allae Mahood Ginn. He served his country for five years as a member of the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. George was employed as a geologist with the State of California Mineral Department, Lands Commission after graduating from Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte Sexton Ginn, Mr. Ginn is survived by a number of nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Elliott and brother-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Sexton of Covington.
In addition to his parents, Charles Porterfield Ginn and Allae Mahood Ginn, he was preceded in death by a brother “Happy” Ginn and two sisters, Virginia Ballengee and Louise Blackburn.
He and Charlotte traveled extensively throughout the United States and foreign countries. He had a great sense of humor, was known for his musical ability as a drummer, tap dancer and "jitter bugging". To know him was to love him.
A private graveside service was conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 7, 2015, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.
