Mr. Charles S. Wingfield, Jr., affectionately known as Charlie, went to be with his heavenly father, Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Friendship Memory Care of Roanoke where he had resided for the last year. He was the husband of Dorris Persinger Wingfield.
Mr. Wingfield was born December 27, 1928 in Covington, the son of the late Charles S. Wingfield, Sr. and Pearle M. Wingfield. One of his greatest joys was working at the Westvaco Paper Mill. He started in 1947 and worked his way up the ladder until he retired in 1994, and to quote him, "I loved every minute." Charlie then went on to start a consulting business and worked two more years. He was a dedicated worker and never gave anything he did less than his best.
Mr. Wingfield was a charter member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. Charlie was also a member of Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF&AM, the Roanoke Kazim Temple and the Clifton Forge Shrine Club. He was an avid golfer who truly enjoyed playing the game.
In addition to his wife, Dorris, who was his high school sweetheart and to whom he was married for seventy-three years, Mr. Wingfield is survived by two daughters, Pamela S. Wingfield of Roanoke and Jackie L. Ison and husband, Duane of Roanoke; a sister, Ann Miller Mooney of New Bern, NC; and especially close friends, Kathy Darnell of Roanoke, Terry Lemons of Covington, Dianne and Randy Mills of Fort Worth, TX.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 14, 2023, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
