Mrs. Betty Southers Forbes, age 90, of Clifton Forge, died Sunday May 21, 2023, at her residence. She was the wife of Hampton Edwards Forbes, II to whom she was married to for seventy-four years.
Mrs. Forbes was born on June 30, 1932 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late Maxwell T. Southers and Carrie Henson Southers. She moved to this area with her husband in 1997 after living in Delaware for thirty years. Mrs. Forbes had been employed as a manager by J.C. Penney for a number of years and was the former owner and operator of Hockman Manor Bed and Breakfast in Edinburg, VA Betty was a member of Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Forbes is survived by a son, Hampton Edward Forbes, III of Edinburg; two daughters, Deborah F. Aretz and husband, Jack of Mt. Jackson and Gwyneth Schultz and husband, Albert of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Southers; two sisters, Eleanor McKay of St. Petersburg, FL and Cathy Conner and husband, Steve of Iron Gate; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Forbes was preceded in death by a daughter, Therressa L. Hames and three brothers, Terry Southers, Tex Southers and Homer Southers.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, May 26, 2023, at Church of Christ with Pat McPeek officiating.
