Obituary for Bobby L. Broughman

Bobby L. Broughman, age 83, of Covington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023 after fighting a courageous battle with Lewy-Body dementia.
Bobby was born May 5, 1939 at the former C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge. He was the son of the late Thomas L. Broughman and Claudine B. Gooch. After graduating from Dunlap High School, Mr. Broughman joined the United State Army where he served his country for four years. Following his service, Bobby worked at Newport News Shipbuilding where he learned welding. He missed the mountains of home so much that he decided to move back to this area. Then Mr. Broughman worked as a welder for the former Hercules Incorporated before finishing his career at Gala Industries.
After returning home to his beloved mountains, a friend introduced him to Carol Jones. They were later married on December 12, 1966. Sadly, Carol passed away exactly one month before her husband on December 28, 2022.
Mr. Broughman is survived by his daughter, Melissa B. Crush (Howard); two sisters, Leona B. Wilhelm and Emily B. Brown; a brother, John Ellis Holston (Patricia); nieces and nephews, Teresa Wilhelm, Karen W. Graham (Paul), Carter Brown (Jennifer), Bridget Wilhelm, Ellen Medford (Jason), Lynn Holston Shematek, John Holston, Jr. and Lisa Stevens; and his beloved dogs, Tater, Chip and Cooper.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Broughman was preceded in death by his stepmother, Ruth Holston and a brother-in-law, Sam Wilhelm.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Carter Brown, Paul Graham, Shelly Buckland and Ryan Buckland.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
