Obituary for Linwood Earl King

Mr. Linwood Earl King, age 85, of Eagle Rock, died Thursday, January 19, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Shelvagene Lowery King.
Mr. King was born February 24, 1937 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Howard C. King and Emma Clyde Austin King. He was a lifetime resident of this area. Linwood served his country as a member of the United States Army under peacetime conditions. During his working career, Mr. King was employed by the former Hercules and the former AET Corporation working in their research department for a number of years until his retirement. Linwood was a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church. A true country boy, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and listening to bluegrass music. Most of all, Linwood loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of sixty-two years, Shelvagene, Mr. King is survived by one son, Linwood F. King and wife, Brandi of Salem; two daughters, Pamela K. Stinnett and husband, Greg of Buchanan and Marcella K. Campbell and husband, Andy of Raphine; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren plus two more great grandchildren expected in March and July; one brother, David King and wife, Carolyn of Eagle Rock; and one sister, Nona K. Saville of Eagle Rock.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 23, 2023 at Galatia Presbyterian Church with Rev. Emily Hook officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert McRae and Rev. Cole Floyd. Interment will follow in Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will have a private visitation on Monday morning from 11:00 A.M. until noon at Galatia Presbyterian Church.
The family will receive their friends on Monday from noon until time of service at Galatia Presbyterian Church.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Galatia Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 78 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, VA 24085.
