Obituary for Melvin Eugene Munsey
Mr. Melvin Eugene Munsey, age 87, formerly of Covington, died January 10, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Mary Davis Munsey.
Mr. Munsey was born September 2, 1935 in Covington, the son of the late William Hoyt Munsey, Sr. and Lola Martin Munsey. He was a graduate of Covington High School. Melvin was employed as a yardmaster by CSX Railroad, retiring after forty-two years of service. Mr. Munsey was a longtime member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as restoring older model cars, going to car shows and volunteering with the food pantry.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Munsey is survived by a son, Kenneth D. Munsey and wife, Kathy and two daughters, Deanna L. Bratcher and husband, Bob and Linda G. Munsey and partner, Tim Galford.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Munsey was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Munsey and Bill Munsey.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Moss officiating.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O. Box 1000 Fishersville VA 22939.
