Obituary for Gay Nell Parker (Arrington)
Mrs. Gay Nell Arrington Parker, age 90, of Blacksburg, formerly of Covington, died Friday, December 16, 2022, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Harold Burton Parker.
Mrs. Parker was born January 19, 1932 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late George Lewis Arrington and Evelyn Carter Arrington Faucette. She was a lifetime resident of this community. Gay Nell graduated from Madison College now James Madison University with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. Mrs. Parker was employed as a teacher in the Alleghany County and Covington School Systems for thirty-five years before her retirement. She was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. Gay Nell was a member of several bridge clubs as well as Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Society for Women Educators.
Mrs. Parker is survived by a daughter, Molly Gay Parker of Blacksburg; a brother, James Lewis Arrington and wife, Judy of Tampa, FL; a sister, Patsy Arrington Parker of Daleville; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Parker Hudson and husband, Kevin, Anna Sue Weade, B.R. Rupert, Allen Weade and Bobby Weade; great nieces and nephews, Kaitlyn Lacey Potter Law and husband, Drew, Parker Ruth Hudson and Carter Hobbs Hudson; special cousins, Howard Liptrap and Trisha, Jimmy and Jami English, family friends, Carol and Jimmy Hallet; and the many pets and animals that she loved over the years.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Parker was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy D. Arrington; brothers-in-law, Orion Everette Parker, Jr. and Burdette Rupert; sister-in-law, Frances Parker Rupert; and beloved niece, Susan Parker Potter.
A private service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 with Howard Liptrap speaking.
Family should assemble at Loving Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
