Obituary for Paul B. Lacy III

Paul Bachman Lacy III, 76, died peacefully at his home, Fallingleaf, in Covington on Thursday, December 1, 2022, with his wife, Linda by his side.
Paul was born July 7, 1946, in Clifton Forge, the oldest child and only son of the late Paul B. Lacy Jr. and Gertrude G. Lacy.
Paul graduated from Greenbrier Military School and Arkansas College with a bachelor's degree in business. He returned to Virginia where he joined the Virginia National Guard and also began his career in aviation when he became the pilot for the air taxi service operating out of the Covington Airport. His most frequent passengers were Westvaco managers and executives whom he flew to other company locations around the East Coast. After the company decided not to allow their employees to fly in single engine airplanes, the taxi service eventually closed and the airport was converted into a mobile home park. Paul then managed the park and was later the maintenance manager for three carwashes until he retired after suffering a stroke in 2016.
On July 2, 1983, Paul married Linda Stone of Covington. They began married life living in the carriage house at his grandmother's home in Rosedale, before moving to the main residence there in 1990. They remained there for the rest of their 39 and a half years of happily married life.
Paul was a man of many interests and hobbies, and by the time he was 18 years old, he had purchased his beloved Swift airplane, had started furnishing a blacksmith shop, had already built a hot rod as a young teen, and was teaching himself to be an electrician, plumber, machinist, welder and gunsmith. He was a member of the National Rifle Association; the Covington-Hot Springs Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow; the Alleghany Historical Society; the Jackson River Preservation Association; the Beech Brook Hunt Club; the Shenandoah Valley British Car Club, the Swift Association; the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America; the Appalachian Blacksmith Association; the Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil Association; and the Pennsylvania Artist Blacksmiths Association. Paul was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church but in later years he attended Temple Baptist Church with Linda.
Besides his wife, Paul is survived by his sister, Anne Wright; his brother-in-law John Stone and wife, Sheryl; his sisters-in-law Christy Uzzell, Mary Stone and Sandra Krochta and husband, Tom; his niece Amber Uzzell and step-niece Beth Craghead and husband, Jerry; his nephews Jacob Wright, Calvin Wright, Tyson Uzzell and John Stone, Jr.; step-nephews Scott Seldomridge and Neil Seldomridge and wife, Hannah; great-nieces Callie Uzzell and Kinley Uzzell and Paloma Wright; step-great-nephews Will Seldomridge, Samuel Craghead and Jack Craghead; step-great-niece Emma Seldomridge; and in Arkansas, his Aunt Lynn Thomas, cousins Jim Thomas, Steve Thomas, Mary Lynn Van Wyke and their families.
