Obituary for Lewis and Kathy Leitch

Lewis Preston Thomas Leitch, age 71, and Kathy Smith Leitch, age 70, both of Covington, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, in Roanoke, Virginia.
Mr. Leitch was born August 20, 1951, in Covington, Virginia, the son of the late Jack Riffe Leitch, Sr. and Mildred Hinton Leitch. Mrs. Leitch was born August 15, 1952, in Covington, Virginia, the daughter of the late Bernard Elmo Smith and Reba Johnson Smith.
Lewis and Kathy were lifelong residents of Covington. Lewis was a graduate of Covington High School and Virginia Tech. He served his community throughout his life as an educator in the Covington School System and served as a City Councilman as well as Mayor of Covington. Kathy, also a graduate of Covington High School, dedicated countless hours to the betterment of the region and its residents through numerous civic organizations and charitable endeavors. Kathy was a talented seamstress, serving first-responders, area high schools, and people of the community for their special events.
Throughout their lives, however, the role that they loved most was that of adoring grandparents. In retirement their most cherished moments were spent with their grandchildren, whether gathering for family events, visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, or fiercely supporting Virginia Tech at sporting events.
Mr. and Mrs. Leitch are survived by their son and his wife, Thomas Leitch and Katherine Leitch of Franklin, Massachusetts; their daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Brad McCrady of Christiansburg, Virginia; four grandchildren, Rachel, Eric, Natalie, and Adrienne; one sister, Sharon Schuder and husband, Lawrence of Covington; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Leitch; and a number of nephews. Mr. Leitch was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Riffe Leitch, Jr. Mrs. Leitch was preceded in death by her sister, Bonnie Kinsey.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at the chapel of Loving Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Jennings, Robert "Buzz" Hoke, Gary Keyser, Pete Leitch, Jacob Jackson, Allen Dressler, W.L. Dressler, Steve Dressler, Matt Garten, Wes Walker, Neal Dressler, J.R. Leitch, Eric Rothwell, Kirk Smith, Jamie Worley, Brad Fitzgerald, Harold Lambert, Gene Wood and Dizzy Garten.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
