Obituary for Ellen Brown Hayslett (McCallister)
Ellen Brown McCallister Hayslett, age 78 of the Witten Valley community in Tazewell, VA passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA.
Born November 25, 1943 at Gap Mills, WV, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Renick McCallister and Blanche McMann McCallister. She was a member of Main Street United Church in Tazewell, VA. Ellen attended Covington High School where she was a majorette, played girls basketball and was also Vice President of the Covington High School Chapter of Future Homemakers of America. She attended Business College and George Mason University. In earlier years, she did office administration work for various companies including Hercules and Lockheed. Later in life, she attained the position of Office Security Manager for McKenna and Cunco, LLP International, Inc. which represented industry contractors working for the US government. She retired in 2004. Ellen also loved to cook and sew. The family would like to express special thanks to Lori Atwell and Becky Sparks for the wonderful care provided by them during Ellen’s time of need.
She is survived by her daughter, Robin Hurley and husband, Chris of Tazewell, VA; one son, Brad Reginald Hayslett of Chester, VA; one brother, Wendell G. McCallister and wife, Geneva “Gennylynn” of Chester, VA; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and the father of her children, Augustus A. Hayslett and his wife, Rebecca of Covington, VA.
The family will receive friends from 2 PM until 4 PM Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA.
There will also be a visitation from 6-8 PM Monday, September 12, 2022 and funeral service at 11 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Loving Funeral Home in Covington, VA with the Reverend Anthony Grills officiating. Burial will follow at Allegheny Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 118 Main St. Tazewell, VA 24651.
