Obituary for Gary Wayne "Boo Boo" Whitehead

Mr. Gary Wayne “Boo Boo” Whitehead, age 62, of Covington, died December 1, 2020 at Lewis Gale-Alleghany. He was the husband of Jacqueline Sharp Whitehead.
Mr. Whitehead was born December 30, 1957 in Covington, the son of Ruby Louise Wright Whitehead and the late Jay Edward Whitehead Sr. He was employed as a loan officer at Highland Community Bank and was a former employee of the Dressler Motors and Alleghany Motors in Covington. Mr. Whitehead was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed being with his family, playing golf, watching the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and the Virginia Cavaliers as well as playing softball. He was the past president of the Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis, chairman of the annual Kiwanis golf tournament, enjoyed playing Santa Claus, and was a past board member of Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his mother, Louise, and his wife, Jacqueline, Mr. Whitehead is survived by a daughter, Courtney “Waterhead” Whitehead Dillman and husband, Bradford; special in-laws, Roy and Anita Sharp; beloved dog, Riley Ann; two brothers, Jay E. Whitehead, Jr. and wife, Patricia and Dennis Lee Whitehead and wife, Debbie; nephew, Bryan Michael Whitehead; nieces, Jennifer Whitehead Dennis and husband, Ray, Melissa Whitehead, Tiffany DeLoof and husband, Brandon; several great nieces; one great nephew; numerous cousins; and many friends who are like family that are too numerous to list.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 6, 2020, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating, assisted by Rev. Stephanie Clark. Private interment will be held in Bethel Cemetery in Botetourt County.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home
In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial contributions in Gary "Boo Boo" Whitehead's name be made to Alleghany Highlands Kiwanis Scholarship Fund, Post Office Box 902 Covington, VA 24426.
Friends attending the service feel free to dress in UVA colors to honor and celebrate Boo Boo.
