Obituary for Samuel Neil Rothwell
Neil Rothwell, age 52, of Covington, went to be with his Lord on Friday, October 9, 2020.
Born March 3, 1968 in Alleghany County, he was the youngest child of the late Benjamin B. and Shirley D. Rothwell.
He was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1986. Neil was also a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He loved the Lord and his church family. Neil was a wonderful brother and a true friend with a forgiving soul. Always ready to lend a hand or comfort anyone who needed it, he also had a great sense of humor and a mischievously warm smile. Neil enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and spending time on the farm.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Shae Rothwell Jarrett.
He is survived by three brothers, Stephen B. Rothwell, David W. Rothwell and Bryan K. Rothwell and wife, Sandy and a sister, Linda R. Arritt and husband, Chip, all of Covington.
Neil is also survived by his nephews, Eric Rothwell and wife, Deena of Troutville; Joshua Arritt and wife, Laura of Catawba; Mathew Rothwell and wife, Christine of Covington; Jason Rothwell and Zachary Rothwell of Danville; a niece, Emily Arritt of Roanoke as well as seven great nephews and two great nieces; an aunt, Nancy Dame; her son, Patrick; and a special friend, Bill Jarrett.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Sunday October 25, 2020, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Nicely and Eddie Irvine officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
A private family interment will be held at a later date in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Gospel Light Baptist Church, 302 S. Craig Avenue, Covington, VA 24426 or to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston MA 02241-7005.
