Obituary for Gary Lee Brackenridge

Mr. Gary Lee Brackenridge, age 69, of Covington, died Thursday, September 12, 2019. He was the husband of Tanya Mays Brackenridge.
Mr. Brackenridge was born September 23, 1949 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Daniel Rubin Brackenrich and Lucille Mae Wirt Brackenrich. He was a lifetime resident of this community. Gary served his country as a member of the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Mr. Brackenridge was employed by Chapman Plumbing and Heating before his retirement. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, growing flowers and fishing. Most of all, Gary loved doing odd jobs and was known for helping others in the community especially senior citizens and the elderly. He was a member of Good News Church. Mr. Brackenridge was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars where he served on the firing squad.
In addition to his wife, Tanya, Mr. Brackenridge is survived by two sons, Jason Brackenridge and wife, Laura and Stephen Bland, Jr. and wife, Charlee; four grandchildren, Cadence Bland, Sawyer Bland, Casey Mountcastle and Matthew Sink; three great grandchildren, Nevaeh Sink, Nicoah Sink and Nixie Sink; two brothers, Michael R. Brackenridge and Donald Ray Brackenridge; three sisters, Penelope Angel, Patsy Bowen and Barbara Hoke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Berkley and Mary Mays; two brothers-in-law, Britt and Karen Mays and Dean and Cindy Lunsford; two sisters-in-law, Devone and Gary Bess and Gail Mays and boyfriend, Krist Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Daniel and Lucille Brackenrich, Mr. Brackenridge was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Paxton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 16, 2019, at Good News Church with Rev. Steve Noel officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jason Brackenridge, Stephen Bland, Travis Hoke, Ronnie Rose, Victor Cucci, Floyd Lane, Donnie J. Tincher and Robert G. Hoke
Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:30 A.M. until time of service at the church.
