Obituary for Leonard Keith "Buck" Ray Jr.

Mr. Leonard Keith “Buck” Ray, Jr., age 70, of Covington, died Friday, May 10, 2019, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem. He was the husband of the late Michaella Kay Reynolds Ray.
Mr. Ray was born July 25, 1948 in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Leonard Keith Ray, Sr. and Bethel Burgess Ray. He served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam era. During his working career, Buck worked as a teacher and substitute teacher in the Alleghany County School System, the Covington School System, at the Jackson River Technical Center and was a former employee of Mountain Air. He was also a beloved employee of Loving Funeral Home where he will be deeply missed for his caring ways and big heart. Buck enjoyed working with his hands and helping other people. He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Ray is survived by his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Ray of Covington; two sisters, Bethel R. Kersey and husband, Leon and Laura R. Guckert and husband, Brian, all of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Susan Reynolds Sponaugle and husband, Frank, Jr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a brother, James Scott Ray.
A private gathering will be conducted at a later date.
