Obituary for Sam Lindsay Duncan

Sam Lindsay Duncan, 65, a native of Hot Springs and a Yorktown resident the past 29 years, succumbed to cirrhosis after a year battle on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at home.
Sam was born as Mary Ellen Lindsay July 11, 1952 in Hot Springs.
Sam attended the Alleghany County school system and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in Clifton Forge, Virginia.
On September 10, 1980 she had her named changed from Mary Ellen to Sam and came to Newport News where she started working for Newport News Shipbuilding.
In 2005 she started working for Mid-Atlantic Coating as a Reviewer of all that company’s records prior to being turned over to Supervisor of Shipbuilding at Newport News Shipbuilding.
Sam retired in December 2015.
Sam enjoyed reading and cooking. She enjoyed baking cakes for special events for friends and Grandchildren. She was always a giving person willing to help those in need every chance she had.
Sam was preceded in death by her father, Howard Nelson Lindsay and brother, Phillip Hughes Lindsay.
She survived by her husband of 25 years, Thomas Charles Duncan of Yorktown, VA; mother, Mary Alice Hanks of Covington, VA, brother Joseph Nelson Lindsay and wife, Cynthia Yvonne of Hot Springs, VA; stepson, Robert Theodore Duncan and wife, Rebecca Ouellette of Hayes, VA; stepdaughter Sherry Lynn Jeans and husband Sammie Clark of Newport News, VA; six nieces and nephews, and 4 step grandchildren Charlie Duncan, Skylah Jones, Briona Jones, and Aiden Jeans.
There will be two Celebrations of Life for Sam.
The first one will be on October 29, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Amory Funeral Home in Grafton, VA.
The second one will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating. Interment will follow in Jones Cemetery in Hot Springs, VA.
