Obituary for Edgar Ray "Eddie" Rickett

Mr. Edgar Ray “Eddie” Rickett, age 86, of Covington, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Eileen Farmer Rickett.
Mr. Rickett was born June 2, 1931 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Leonard C. Rickett, Sr. and Viola Mae Arrington Rickett. A lifetime resident of this community, he was a graduate of Covington High School. Eddie served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves. Employed by the Kroger Company for forty-four years, Eddie was a manager of the local store for thirty-eight years. Eddie was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mr. Rickett was a fifty year member of the Covington Lodge 171 AF & AM, a member of the Kazim Shriners, the Scottish Rite of Roanoke Valley and the Royal Arch Chapter.
In addition to his wife, Eileen, Mr. Rickett is survived by two sons, Carey Anthony Rickett and wife, Robin and Mark Alan Rickett and wife, Dawn of Covington; three daughters, Mary Janet Rickett of Albany GA, Jill Michelle Rickett Burks and husband, L.C. of Covington and Lori Jeannie Rickett McCormick and husband, Daniel of Covington; daughter-in-law, Mary Brady Rickett of Roanoke; eight grandchildren Rachael Elyse Hutchinson, Ashley Brooke Burks, Megan Dawn Rickett, Carey Anthony Rickett, Jr., Danny Ray Moore, Jr., Jeremiah Shaye Lockhart, Daniel James McCormick, Jr., Jacob Nathaniel McCormick; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Rickett Plott of Winchester and Charlotte Rickett Wilmer Goeke of Morgan's Point, TX.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Rickett was preceded in death by a son, Adonis Ray “Ricky” Rickett and a brother, Leonard C. “June” Rickett, Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 25, 2017, at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Urban officiating. Entombment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be James Jennings, and Mr. Rickett’s grandsons. Alternate pallbearer will be Leonard C. Rickett, III.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Thursday evening at Loving Funeral Home by Covington Masonic Lodge #171 AF & AM.
