Mrs. Nancy Bryant Garber Arritt, age 91, of Covington, died Saturday, February 25, 2017, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Roy W. Garber and the late Roy Ugee Arritt.
Mrs. Arritt was born June 24, 1925 in Virginia, the daughter of the late Guy Forrester Bryant and Bessie Bernice Conner Bryant. She was the owner and operator of a small insurance company, N. B. Garber Insurance. Nancy was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women’s Circle and especially loved to travel and be involved with church activities.
Mrs. Arritt is survived by one daughter, Sandra G. Wood and husband, Bruce of Covington; a son-in-law, John Mayse of Stuart’s Draft; two grandchildren, Amanda M. Shepherd and husband, Tom of Fishersville and Brad A. Wood of Durham, NC; two great grandchildren, Cullen Shepherd and Abby Shepherd of Fishersville; a number of nieces and nephews; and several loving friends that have been close to her during her final years.
Mrs. Arritt was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Garber Mayse of Stuart’s Draft; a brother, Kermit F. Bryant; and a sister-in-law, Christine W. Bryant, both of South Carolina.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 3, 2017, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Patrick Pettit officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of donations to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church Food Bank, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426 or Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
