Obituary for Connie Newcomb Gilbert

Mrs. Connie Newcomb Gilbert, age 84, of Covington, died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at her home. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Gilbert to whom she was married for twenty-eight years.
Connie was born August 6, 1933 in Clifton Forge, the daughter of the late Percy K. and Beulah C. Newcomb. During her working career, she was employed by the former Jane Colby and then Boys’ Home until her retirement. Connie was a faithful member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where she attended Sunday school and church services and was a member of Circle No. 4. She was also a member of the Clifton Forge Moose, the Red Hats, the Hand and Foot Card Club, the Covington Senior Citizens, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. During the past five years, Connie enjoyed attending the Red Hats luncheons, playing cards with her Hand and Foot friends, participating in activities at the Covington Senior Center, and taking trips with Pat’s Travelers.
Connie is survived by three daughters, Deborah Bowyer and husband Richard of Covington; Donna Gil of San Antonio, TX; Teresa Turner and husband Peter of Woodbridge; three granddaughters, Amanda Gil and Avery Gil of San Antonio and Amy Turner of Woodbridge; a brother-in-law, Lang Gilbert of Covington; a sister-in-law, Joyce Newcomb of Hampton, NH; and several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Joy and George Noel and brother Percy K. Newcomb, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Patrick Pettit officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Connie has requested that donations be made to McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 N. Alleghany Avenue, Covington, VA 24426.
