Mr. Dennis Gene “Denny” Pence, age 71, of Covington, died Monday January 1, 2018, at LewisGale Hospital –Alleghany, Low Moor. He was the husband, special friend and companion of Erin Wolfe “Suzie” Pence.
Mr. Pence was born August 30, 1946 in Ronceverte, WV, the son of the late Meverill Leland Pence and Mary Evelyn Mann Pence. He served his country as an air traffic controller in the United States Air Force. A member of this community since 1969, Mr. Pence was an automotive machinist and in 1995, he founded Denny’s Automotive. Denny was also a former employee of Hercules, McClung Brothers and Woody’s Auto Parts. He was a member of South Covington United Methodist Church. Denny was also a member of the Covington/Alleghany Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, a founding member of Kar’s Unlimited and a member of Mad Ann Rifle Club.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pence is survived by a son, Heath Ryan Pence and wife, Donna of Covington; a daughter, Courtney Gene Pence Crawford and husband, Ashley of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Blaise Aaron Pence, Bryce Kendall Crawford, Ashtyn Presley Crawford; three brothers, Meverill Leland Pence, Jr. and wife, Lisa of Lake Helen, FL, Mark Daryl Pence and wife, Connie of Hurricane, WV and Francis E. Pence and wife, Liz of Union, WV; a sister, Irene Pence Pyster and husband, Walter of Ormond Beach, FL; a number of nieces and nephews; and his special dog, Scuffy.
A funeral service will be conducted at a later date.
