Obituary for George Lawrence "Buster" Noel

George Lawrence "Buster"  Noel
Mr. George Lawrence “Buster” Noel, age 87, of Covington, died Saturday, December 23, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Joyce Newcomb “Joy” Noel.
Mr. Noel was born May 17, 1930 in Alleghany County, the son of the late George L. Noel and Alice Lantz Noel. Buster served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He was employed as a Quality Control Supervisor by Mead/Westvaco for forty years before his retirement. Buster was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served his church as a deacon and elder. He was also a member of the Men of Missions, the Covington/Alleghany Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America and Beach Brook Hunt Club. Mr. Noel had an avid love for the outdoors, nature, hunting and fishing. Buster’s faith and family were the most important things in his life.
Mr. Noel is survived by a son, Rick Noel and wife, Ann of Washington; two daughters, Anita N. Rice and husband, Bobby of Covington and Barbara Noel of Richmond; four grandchildren, Brian Rice, Sam Noel and wife, Paty, Ben Noel and wife, Sara, and Larissa Hebdon and husband, Kory; five great grandchildren, Hudson Rice, Lawrence Noel, Thomas Noel, Dakota Noel and Drew Noel; three sisters, Jo Ann Noel, Juanita Ailstock Crawford and Pauline Paxton;a number of nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Dianna Scruggs, Nikkie Brookman, Fay Brookman and Loretta "Tubby" Andrews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Noel was preceded in death by two brothers, Grover C. “Bobby” Noel and Jack Eugene Noel and one sister, Jeanetta Noel Ailstock.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Patrick Pettit officiating, assisted by Rev. William Catoe. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mutt Reynolds, Bert Caul, Ron McGovern, Howard Poague, Craig Poague, Nathan Hale, Lee Ann Poague and Richard Downer. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Wenke, Bob Meyer, Joe Wimer, Wayne Sampson, Charles Wingfield and members of the Izaak Walton League, the Beach Brook Hunt Club and the Men of Missions.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
