Mr. James Lewis “Buzz” Smith, age 83, of Covington, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem.
Mr. Smith was born August 12, 1933 in Alleghany, the son of the late Floyd P. Smith and Maude Nicole Smith. He was a lifetime resident of this community. Buzz was employed by the City of Covington where he retired after twenty-three years of service before working at the Saltarini Plant for eleven years. Mr. Smith was of the Protestant faith. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Smith is survived by four sons, William L. Smith and wife, Jeanie, Delbert L. Smith, Gary W. Smith and wife, Margaret, and Dickie R. Smith and fiancée, Missy Dressler, all of Covington; five grandchildren, Keith Brown, Daniel Brown, Brian Smith, Dickie Smith, Jr., and Andy Smith; and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Smith and two sisters, Mary S. Brisendine and Virgie S. Miller.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 17, 2017, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. J.B. Broughman officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Keith Brown, Daniel Brown, Brian Smith, Dickie Smith, Jr., Andy Smith and friends, Roger Dawson, Alan Ferris and Kevin Hall.
The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 12 noon until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
