Obituary for Helen Gaylor Hoke

Helen Gaylor  Hoke
Mrs. Helen Gaylor Hoke, age 86, of Elkton, passed peacefully into her Lord’s hands with her family by her side, Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Journeys Crossing Assisted Living, Elkton, VA. She was the wife of the late Rev. John Leegrand Hoke.
Mrs. Hoke was born April 1, 1930 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Charles Porter Gaylor and Ethel Mildred Hoover Gaylor. She was a homemaker. Helen was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and District United Methodist Church Spouses. Mrs. Hoke was a certified lay speaker of the Virginia United Methodist Conference. Along with her devoted Christian work, she had a passion for bowling especially with the Valley Belles.
Mrs. Hoke is survived by two sons, Paul Douglas Hoke and wife, Linda Shelton and Gregory Alan Hoke and wife, Kathy; a daughter, Brenda Kaye Hoke; four grandsons, Jonathan Grattan, Wesley Grattan, Christopher Grattan and Brett Crawford; a granddaughter, Lisa Crawford Davis; four great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hoke was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. John L. Hoke and her brother, Paul Lacy Gaylor.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Hoke Chapel Church Cemetery with Rev. Frankie Sizemore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lewey-Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn GA 30047 or the Alzheimers Association, Chapter 1160, Pepsi Place Suite 306, Charlottesville VA 22901.

Directions to Hoke Chapel Cemetery:
Take Exit 10 off of Interstate 64-West and turn left. Take the first right onto Midland Trail Road and continue for several miles until you reach Ogles Creek Road which will be located on the right. Continue for three miles and the driveway to the Hoke Chapel Cemetery will be on the left. There is a sign for Hoke Chapel Cemetery located in a tree on the right hand side of the road indicating where to turn.
