Rev. Paul Cassidy Harris, age 86, of Covington, a servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia Ann Walker Harris.
Rev. Harris was born September 17, 1930 in Premier, WV, the son of the late William Glen Harris and Virginia Pauline Curtin Harris. He was a graduate of Gary High School in Gary, WV. Paul served his country from 1950 until 1954 as a member of the United States Navy where he was a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class during the Korean Conflict. Prior to entering the ministry, he was employed by Eaton-Yale Corporate in Salem. A graduate of Duke Divinity School in 1978, he served several churches and charges including Crockett Springs United Methodist Church, Catawba Charges, Lafayette/Halls United Methodist Church, Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Parrish Court United Methodist Church and Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church before his retirement.
Rev. Harris was a member of the Boiling Spring Ruritan Club. He loved fly fishing, singing with a group called “The Redeemers”, and building and maintaining his log home with his family. Rev. Harris hosted seven different tours to the Holy Land in addition to three biblical tours through the Mediterranean area. He was also active with mission trips to Haiti.
In addition to his wife, Patricia Walker Harris, Rev. Harris is survived by a son, Brian Cassidy Harris and wife, Danielle of Glen Allen; a daughter-in-law, Michele Warlitner Harris of Covington; six grandchildren, David Paul Harris and wife, Haley, Andrew James Harris, Brianna Michelle Harris, Jessica Watson Sykes and husband, Matt, Kate Watson Hoke and husband, Patrick, Carmen Watson Landis and husband, Ethan; six great grandchildren, Quinten Harris, Gracelyn Sykes, Konner Hoke, Karlie Hoke, McKenzie Ward, and Jacob Landis; three brothers, William Eugene Harris of Jacksonville, Fl, Jay Foster Harris of Glen Allen and Larry James Harris and wife, Tommi of Goldsboro, NC; a sister, Zuma Agnes Truitt of Onancock; three special cousins, Carl Harris, Margery Bowles of Salem, Curtis Downey of Boones Mill; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rev. Harris was preceded in death by a son, Richard Paul Harris in 2014 and two brothers, Alvin Glen Harris and Harry Adrian Harris.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Russell Urban and Rev. Emory Tarpley officiating.
Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke, VA. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.
