Ms. Janet Darlene Burkholder Folks, age 64, of Covington, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem.
Ms. Folks was born January 30, 1952 in Covington, the daughter of the late Bennie Hilston Burkholder and Edna Darlene Phillips Burkholder. A longtime resident of this area, Janet had been employed as a cashier by the Greenbrier Resort before her retirement. She was a member of Hoke Chapel United Methodist Church. Janet enjoyed crafting and cross stitch and spending time with her family. Most of all, she read her bible daily and her faith was a very important part of her everyday life.
Ms. Folks is survived by a son, David Snyder, Jr. and wife, Donna of Fincastle; a daughter, Janna Folks and boyfriend, Alex Brown of Richmond; a "daughter in love", Bryanna Folks of McGaheysville; two grandchildren, Augustus Snyder and Brittany Maynor; two brothers, Daryl Wayne Burkholder and wife, Debbie of Covington and Trenton Allen Burkholder and wife, Beth of Blue Grass; half-brother, Donald Burkholder and wife, Debbie of Mesquite, TX; nieces and nephews, Danny Luke Burkholder, Jr. of Christiansburg, Evan Burkholder and wife, Amie of Roanoke, Katelyn Christy and husband, Collins of Roanoke, Dabreyl (Bre) Burkholder and boyfriend, Brad Armentrout of Covington and Daryn Burkholder and wife, Sara of Covington; and four great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Folks was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Luke Burkholder, Sr. and a half-brother, Samuel Burkholder.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
