Obituary for Gloria Rowe Crews
Mrs. Gloria Rowe Crews, age 89, of Covington, died Friday, October 21, 2016, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Thomas Eugene Crews who preceded her death in 1995.
Mrs. Crews was born May 15, 1927 in Covington, the daughter of the late Howard Cecil Rowe and Blanche Dickson Rowe. She had been employed as a bookkeeper at both Kay B. Clothing Store and Brown’s Music Shop. Gloria was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Mrs. Crews enjoyed gardening, taking care of plants, riding with her daughter looking at the scenery and watching television especially soap operas. She loved spending time with all of her family.
Mrs. Crews is survived by two daughters, Melody Grant Hirten of Covington and Wendy Grant Smith of Covington; a stepdaughter, Deborah Crews Connors of New Bern, NC; a stepson, Michael E. Crews of Newport, NC; six grandchildren, Tammy Carter, Marcia Tingler Oliver, Georgette Renae Helton, Troy Shifflett, Tony Shifflett and Todd Shifflett; thirteen great grandchildren; three great- great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Crews was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Wendell Rowe and a baby sister, Peggy Joyce Rowe.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Snider officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Tony Shifflett, Troy Shifflett, Shawn Shifflett, Eric Lee, Blake Oliver and Mike Crews.
Honorary pallbearers will be Linden Wills and friends of the family.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Amedisys Hospice 1724, 5221 Valley Park Drive Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24019
