Obituary for Raymond Spinks Hall

Mr. Raymond Spinks Hall, age 95, of Covington, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the VA Medical Center, Salem, VA. He was the husband of the late Vivian Saylor Hall.
Mr. Hall was born June 26, 1921 in Ronceverte, WV, the son of the late William O. Hall and Ella Yates Hall. He was a graduate of Lewisburg High School. Raymond served his country as a staff sergeant with the United States Army during World War, II where he drove a variety of types of trucks from 1 ½ ton weight through heavier vehicles, including tractor and trailer, engaged in general hauling for transfer company on short hauls and made minor repairs. He performed the duties of section sergeant and squad leader of heavy weapons infantry unit under combat conditions oversees and was experienced in the use and maintenance of heavy weapons and in the techniques of scouting and patrolling. Following his military service, Mr. Hall was employed as a mechanic and a supervisor for the shipping department at the former Salterini Company. Raymond also owned and operated Hall’s Restaurant as well as a mobile concession stand at both Casey Field and the West Virginia State Fair. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Mr. Hall is survived by a daughter, Delores Hall Goodwin of Covington; a grandson, Dimitrois Kaptis and wife, Suzie; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Vivian Saylor Hall, Mr. Hall was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Hall Loomis, Margaret Hall Dolan, Betty Hall Plott and Mildred Hall Porterfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Tom Collins as celebrant. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Graveside rites will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Pallbearers will be Jim Plott, Verner Plott, John Plott, Sean Plott, and Ryan Plott.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until service time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
