Obituary for James Forrest Chaplin

Mr. James Forrest Chaplin, age 101, of Covington, formerly of Belle, WV, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at his residence. He was the husband of Katherine Carter Chaplin.
Mr. Chaplin was born January 2, 1915 in Buena Vista, the son of the late Forrest L. Chaplin and May Eliza Neice Chaplin. A native of Virginia, he served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after being stationed with Company #1 with the 39th Infantry and in France with Company B. Mr. Chaplin was a seventy year resident of Belle, WV and retired from DuPont with forty one years of service. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Belle Post 95 and a member of the Masonic Lodge No.158 of Chelyan. James was a charter member of Marmet Hospital Foundation serving as vice president, secretary and treasurer. He assisted in organizing and was an original charter member of VFW Post 5269. Mr. Chaplin was a seventy year member of the Mount Juliet United Methodist Church.
Mr. Chaplin is survived by a number on nieces and nephews including Margaret Phillips and Debra Buckner and husband, Darin with whom they made their home.
In addition to his parents, Forrest L. Chaplin and May Eliza Neice Chaplin and his wife, Katherine Carter Chaplin, Mr. Chaplin was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating.
Graveside rites will be conducted by Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Pallbearers will be David Buckner, Charlie Barton, Ray Thacker, Larry Deacon, John Stone, Wayne Howard, Richard Carter and David Elkins.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mt. Juliet United Methodist Church, 417 E. 4th Street, Belle WV 25015.
