Mrs. Julia Anne Rose Underwood, age 90, of Covington died Friday, March 4, 2016, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany. She was the wife of the late Raymond Underwood.
Mrs. Underwood was born June 26, 1925 in Akron, OH, the daughter of the late Leland Stanford Rose and Madeline McCrobly Rose. She was a lifetime resident of this community. During her working career, Mrs. Underwood had been employed as a private duty nurse. Julia loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, painting, hunting and being in the outdoors. Mrs. Underwood was a lifetime member of Mountain Valley United Methodist Church in Rich Patch.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by three sons, Robert Bowman, Jr. and wife, Judy, Randall Bowman and wife, Cherie and Stephen Bowman and wife, Renny; a daughter, Sheila Hall and husband, James; nine grandchildren, Joshua Bowman and Jamiee, Shey Bowman and wife, Jessica, Jason Bowman and wife, Melissa, Dawn, Lisa, Amy, Wendy, Dean and April; twenty- one great grandchildren, Kendall, Alivia, Nathan, Mariah, Brooke, Bryanna, Bryan, Heather, Christian, Julianna, Bradley, Karl, Kassandra, Kimberly, Katherine, Kristine, J.T., Joshua, Cohle, Brenden and Aron; two great-great grandchildren, Bentley and Audrey; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Leland Stanford and Madeline McCrobly Rose, and her husband, Raymond Underwood, Mrs. Underwood was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Via, Mike Cook, Danny Walton, Marvin Brinhan and Matt Huffman.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 11:30 A.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
