Mr. James Lawrence Thompson, Sr., age 91, of Covington, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor. He was the husband of the late Geraldine Carter Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born February 16, 1923 in Lexington, the son of the late Harvey T. Thompson and Victoria Robinson Thompson. A resident of this community for most of his life, he was employed in the Public Works Department by the City of Covington for twenty-one years. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Callaghan Church of God of Prophecy. He loved to fish as well as enjoyed farming.
Mr. Thompson is survived by two sons, James L. Thompson, Jr. and wife, Brenda and Phillip E. Thompson, Sr.; one daughter, Virginia Thompson; thirteen grandchildren; a number of great grandchildren; one sister, Susie Richardson and husband, Fred of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Thompson, Sam Thompson and Jake Thompson and one sister, Margaret Campbell.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2015, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. C. Johnnie Mize officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Lazaro Perez, Christopher Thompson, Sr., Christopher Thompson, Jr., Thomas Landis, Jake Thompson, Phillip Thompson, David Thompson, Sr. and David Thompson, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
