Mr. Stephen Walters Jones, age 65, of Newport News, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at James River Convalescent Home, Newport News.
Mr. Jones was born July 16, 1949 in Clifton Forge, the son of the late William Harold “Jimmy” Jones and Margaret Walters Jones. He was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1968. Stephen received an associate degree in Forestry from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College before relocating to Newport News where he graduated from an apprentice program in shipbuilding. Mr. Jones was employed as a pipefitter at the Newport News Shipyards, retiring after thirty-seven years of service. He enjoyed weightlifting, hiking outdoors and enjoyed being in the woods and wildlife.
Mr. Jones is survived by his brother, William Alan “Bill” Jones of Covington and a number of cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. James Smith officiating.
Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Loving Funeral Home by 1:15 P.M.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 P.M. until 1:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
