Obituary for Juanita Vail

Juanita Vail
Mrs. Juanita Lee Critzer Vail, age 84, of Salem, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Joseph C. Thomas Center, Salem, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of John H. Vail.
Mrs. Vail was born April 19, 1929 in Callaghan, the daughter of the late William E. Critzer and Bonnie Tyree Critzer. She had a varied career, from working in the coning department of the former Industrial Rayon plant to school secretary as well as clerk in the Lafayette Parish School offices to retiring as secretary/treasurer of Parkway Machine Services in Lafayette, LA. Juanita always had a smile for everyone, loved the outdoors, especially fishing and flowers. She was active in church work, PTA, cub scouts, quilting, and sewing. Juanita also studied art and produced some beautiful paintings.
In addition to her husband of sixty-four years, John H. Vail, Mrs. Vail is survived by two children, Anita Dakermanji and husband, George of Montgomery Village, MD and John R. “Rick” Vail and wife, Laura of Pinson, AL; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Nedra Krickten of Covington and Faye Elmore and husband, Bernie of Roanoke.
Mrs. Vail was preceded in death by four siblings, James R. Critzer, Don D. Critzer, Regina Snead and Mary Middleton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, from the chapel of with the Rev. Robert Lough officiating. Interment will follow in Fletcher Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Vail, Scott Vail, Perry Vail, Wayne Vail, Mike Middleton and Steve Burgess.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until service time at .
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Building Fund of St. Marks United Methodist Church, 19 Cedar Ridge Drive, Daleville, VA 24083.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Joseph C. Thomas Center at Richfield Retirement for the excellent and loving care that they gave Juanita.
